PURPOSE:To reduce the resistance of a hull in waves to aim at enhancing the propelling performance of a catamaran, by absorbing wave energy so that the energy may be converted into the propelling force of the hull. CONSTITUTION:In a catamaran in which two hulls 1 are coupled to the lower surface of an upper structure 2, wave energy absorbing fins 9 having a synmetrical aerofoil profile are disposed between both hulls, being extended in the lateral directions. Each wave energy absorbing fin 9 is rotatably journalled to the associated hull by means of a fin rotary shaft 14, and is also connected at its rear end to a rack 18 through an attack angle adjusting shaft 15, an attach angle adjusting arm 16 and a rotary joint. When the attack angle of the energy absorbing fin is adjusted to a suitable angle with respect to the direction of stream water by operating the rack 18, a lift force due to the fin 9 is generated, thereby a propelling force for advancing the ship may be obtained from the component of the lift force.
