PURPOSE:To execute safely and easily a measuring operation by containing an electromagnetic ultrasonic probe in a case consisting of a heat insulating material, also always positioning it at the upper part of the case, and making it approach to a material to be insepected, when a command signal is received. CONSTITUTION:When a measurement start switch 14 is depressed, a motor 18 is rotated in the forward direction by operating a switching circuit 26 of a motor power supply switch 27 through a timing controlling circuit 19a, and a probe 10 contacts to a material to be inspected 1. Subsequently, a DC coil 2 is energized by operating a switching circuit 22 for controlling a power source 23 of the DC coil 2 in the probe 10. When a DC coil energizing current becomes constant, a pulser 21 is operated by a command of the timing controlling circuit 19a, and a transmitting and receiving coil 6 is energized. An ultrasonic is generated in the material to be inspected 1, its echo signal is received by the transmitting and receiving coil 6, sent to a signal processing circuit 20 through an amplifier 23, and in this circuit 20, a thickness of the material to be inspected, and a defective position and a size of the material to be inspected are transmitted to an indicator 22 in case of thickness meter and in case of a flaw detector, respectively.
