NEW MATERIAL:N,N-Bis(trimethylsilyl)alkyl(or aralkyl or aryl)oxymethylamine of formula (R is alkyl, aralkyl or aryl). EXAMPLE:N,N-bis(trimethylsilyl)methoxymethylamine. USE:An aminomethylating agent. It is a stable and easily purifiable compound, from which a beta-amino acid or its ester can be synthesized. PREPARATION:The compound of formula can be produced by reacting hexamethylsilazane with an alkyl (or aralkyl or aryl) alkali metal, an alkali metal amide or an alkali metal hydride, and reacting the product with a halogenomethyl alkyl(or aralkyl or aryl) ether.
