The said rings are used in many applications, thus for sealing against the escape of gas, for example in axial compensators in exhaust conduits of internal combustion engines, against the escape of lubricant, the entry of spray and dirt in the case of shaft and axle bearings, and as piston rings or snap rings, but the two ends each end with flat surfaces in front of the region of the offset, with the result that only a single cross-section is available here and the effect is reduced. In order to increase the sealing effect and the axial loadability and to prevent the occurrence of an unbalance, particularly at high speeds of revolution, the end faces 2 of the double-layer ring 1 are chamfered, so that, according to requirements, they rest against the region 3 of the offset without play or with a specifiable play or that there is a gap 4 here. <IMAGE>
