<p>A method of analysing a sample of material from a drill hole drilled with an oil based drilling fluid to detect the presence therein of indigenous hydrocarbon, comprises subjecting the sample or an indigenous hydrocarbon containing extract thereof to ultra-violet radiation to obtain a parameter for absorbance or emittance of the sample at a selected wavelength and comprising this parameter with that obtained at the same wavelength for a sample of the base oil.</p> |
