PURPOSE:To stabilize the floating state of a slider by making the rail width of slide rails for the slider narrower at the lengthwise center part than that at both terminals of the rails. CONSTITUTION:Two slide rails 42 for the head slider 41 have narrower rail width at their lengthwise center parts than at an air inflow terminal part 42a and an air outflow terminal 42b. Therefore, when the head slider 41 floats by an air flow generated by the rotation of a magnetic recording medium 51, the air flow becomes easy to run out perpendicularly at the lengthwise center part of each rail 42, so the air pressure produced at the air inflow terminal part 42a of each rail 42 drops in the middle of the rail 42 and rises again at the air outflow terminal part 42b. Consequently, even if the head slider 41 has a gradient Q of about 5-10 deg. to the air flow direction, variation in pressure distribution due to an air film between the slide surface and a magnetic recording medium surface 51 is reduced and the head slider floats stably. |
