Continuous (co)polymsn. of ethylene is effected at pressures of up to 3000 bars and temps. greater than 140 deg.C in the presence of catalysts contg. a transition metal deriv. and an organic Al deriv. The novelty consists in deactivating the catalyst by injecting into the reaction mixt. an inorganic anion exchange substance which is such that its reaction prods. with the catalyst components are retained in the polymer.
