In a central heating boiler in which the heating gases fall below the dew point, a predetermined exhaust gas temperature must not be exceeded, so that no damage occurs to the downstream chimney, which has relatively low dimensional stability and heat resistance. For this purpose, a temperature monitor is arranged in the exhaust gas stream, and reduces the burner power when the predetermined limit temperature is reached.
