PURPOSE:To prevent a cause for non-discharge of liquid globules and to perform satisfactory recording at all times by providing capping for a recording head with a cap to hold liquid when an ink jet printer is not in use. CONSTITUTION:When an ink jet printer is not in use, a recording head 1 is moved to a home position and a damper 21 installed in an arm 19 is pushed by a carriage 2 and the arm 19 is pivoted at a fulcrum 20. Thus, a cap 12 which is designed to move together with the arm 19 is pushed against the recording head 1, resulting in capping of the recording head 1. Liquid holding material 23 is provided within the cap 12 and by capping the recording head 1 in a state of holding the liquid with the material, the evaporation of liquid from the orifice of the recording head 1 is prevented and a satisfactory recording becomes feasible at all times. |
