The invention relates to a parking device for the service brake of a motor vehicle with a parking brake, which in particular conditions of use of the vehicle, in which the holding force of the parking brake is not sufficient to hold the vehicle stationary, also allows the service brake to be activated. The parking device for this is designed so that incorrect operation due to human error, for example whilst the vehicle is travelling, is excluded.
