PURPOSE:To perform uniform image printing by removing the stripe or density irregularity of adjacent strip like boundary parts, by using a transfer ink sheet fed synchronous along with recording paper with respect to a platen roller. CONSTITUTION:An ink donor sheet 128 is fed in synchronous ralation to the outer peripheral surface of a platen roll 123 by rolls 129, 130. In performing thermal transfer recording, recording paper 122 is inserted between the platen roll 123 and the donor sheet 128 and set to a closely contacted tension state so as to be capable of being synchronously fed along with the donor sheet. In this case a paper feed pitch is set to the reference dimension of a printing head 126, that is, a dimension slightly smaller than a heat generating element. When recording is performed by this mechanism, printing is again applied to a region L1 subjected to first transfer corresponding to the boundary part of a first column and a second column only over a width of a DELTAl2. Because this region DELTAl2 is already transferred by first printing, no transfer ink is present on the donor sheet corresponding to the region DELTAl2 and duplicated transfer is not performed.
