PURPOSE:To prepare coke having high strength after reaction and reduce time required for raking-off of fire, by controlling feed of fuel so that concn. of tar contained in gas generated in a carbonization chamber may be on a standard tar concn. curve. CONSTITUTION:Rate of decrease of tar concn. in generated gas becomes greater when time required for raking-off of fire becomes shorter as oven temp. level increases. A standard pattern of change of tar concn. is established on the basis of operating conditions including buring cycle, initial oven temp. and stage of an oven body and properties of charged coal such as moisture and volatile contents, particle size and amount of charge. Actual tar concn. in gas generated in a carbonization chamber is analyzed and heating is controlled by adjusting feed of fuel gas, etc. so that measured values may comply with the standard pattern. Softening and fusing characteristics or fluidity of coal in a dry distillation process is improved by the above simple operation, leading to increased strength of coke after thermal reaction and reduced time required for raking-off of fire.
