PLATE FOR LEAD STORAGE BATTERY AND ITS MANUFACTURE

PURPOSE:To further increase the reliability of a lead storage battery by increasing its life by using a plate which consists of a porous central layer composed of an active material and silicone and a surface layer consisting of a skeleton-like microporous layer composed of silicone alone. CONSTITUTION:A plate for a lead storage battery consists of a central area consisting of a porous rubber-like elastic body 2 composed of an active material 3 and silicone 4, and a surface area consisting of a microporous layer 5 composed of silicone alone. It is manufactured in the following manner. After an aqueous emulsion of a polymeric silicone is brought into contact with an active material, this is dried to form a plate. Next, the plate is immersed in a solution which can dissolve the active material, then washed with water before being dried thereby forming a skeleton-like microporous layer 5 having a three-dimensional structure composed of silicone alone in the surface of the plate.
