PURPOSE:To efficiently collect exhaust heat by a structure wherein a water jacket is provided on the outer periphery of a muffler, which is connected to the exhaust pipe of an engine and in the interior space of which partition plates are provided in layers so as to comprise a part of a heat exchanger together with the water jacket in an integral body. CONSTITUTION:A muffler 9 arranged above an engine 1 is cylindrical and surrounded with a heat exchanger 10 consisting of water jacket on the whole periphery of the muffler 9. The interior space of the muffler 9 consists of expansion chambers 31 and small gaps partitioned in layers by a large number of partition plates 25 so as to form a zigzag flow passage. Further, the partition plate 25 is fixed so as to closely contact its outer periphery with the inner wall of the muffler 9. Due to the structure as mentioned above, high temperature heat of exhaust gas is received by the surface of a large number of the partition plates while the exhaust gas flowing through the muffler 9 in zigzag so as to be transferred from the partition plates 25 to the inner wall of the muffler and further transferred to the hot water flowing through the heat exchanger 10. Because the integrated surface area of a large number of the partition plates 25 is strikingly large, the heat of exhaust gas is collected with remarkably high efficiency. |
