The disclosure is of a method of preparing alkaline metal salts of organic diamines. The method comprises, in brief, reacting the alkaline metal with a molar excess of the diamine in the presence of a catalytic proportion of a transition metal compound, at a temperature of from about 20 DEG C. to reflux temperature for the reaction mixture.
