PURPOSE:To widen the error correction range without increasing redundancy by dividing the information points into blocks to add an error detection code every other block, and adding an error correction code to a line consisting of a prescribed number of blocks having no error detection code. CONSTITUTION:The information points forming codes are divided into blocks, and these blocks are denoted every other one as an information point 1 and an information point 2. An inner code check point 3 is added to each point 1 as an error detection code. The information point 1 and the check point 3 form a block 4. Then a line 5 is formed with the block 4, and an outer code check point 6 consisting of an error correction code is added to each line 5. A step 7 is formed with a prescribed number of lines 5. No check point 3 is added to the information point 2, and a line 8 is formed with a prescribed number of points 2. An outer code point 9 consisting of an error correction code is added to each line 8. Then a step 10 is formed with a prescribed number of lines 8, and the entire code is formed with steps 7-10.
