Epicyclic gearing for a vehicle transmission includes at least four epicyclic gear trains. The planet carrier of the fourth train is secured to the output shaft and the sun wheels of both the first and fourth trains and are connected to the input shaft by a clutch. The first and fourth trains each provide independently a low ratio, each of which can be chosen as desired while the second and third gear trains provide higher ratios.
