PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy in preparing an edge and to improve the reliability of welding quality in the stage of performing edge preparation in the welded joint of a steel pipe by fusion cutting utilizing gas and plasma by making edge preparation while a torch for fusion cutting is controlled by a shape detecting mechanism so as to follow up a work along the shape thereof. CONSTITUTION:A torch holder 6 is attached via a driving part 3 for follow-up and an arm 4 to a revolving shaft 2 to be attached with a welding torch 5. The shaft 2 is matched with the central position in the edge preparing part of a steel pipe 1 as a work. Proximity switches 7, 8 attached to the top end of the arm 4 act as a shape detecting mechanism in the stage of fusion cutting of the edge by means of the torch 5 while rotating the shaft 2. A control motor 3a of the driving part 3 attached to the the shaft 2 is controlled by the signals from said switches to move horizontally the arm 4, by which the pipe 1 is fusion-cut while the torch 5 is moved always to the correct position. The edge is thus formed with excellent working accuracy. |
