PURPOSE:To provide a typewriter enabled to enhance printing quality and to greatly prolong the useful life thereof, comprising a driving device for moving a ribbon guide to a position proximate to a platen and a position where the guide does not make contact with a paper bail provided on the platen. CONSTITUTION:The typewriter is provided with a driving device 10', whereby simultaneously with a printing operation, the driving force of the driving device 10' is transmitted to a ribbon guide lever driving pin 6' to rotate a ribbon guide lever 2' and a ribbon guide 1' with a guide shaft 3' as a center, thereby maintaining the ribbon guide 1' at the first position proximate to the platen 13'. Further, simultaneously with replacing a paper after completing a printing operation, a power source for the driving device 10' is turned OFF, and the ribbon guide 1' is returned to the second position where it does not make contact with the paper bails 11', 12' provided on the platen 13', under the weight of a plunger 15' or the like. |
