A float assembly is used to carry removable support sheets. The vol of the float is sufficient to provide a positive buoyancy equal to at least one quarter of the wt of the sheets carrying mussels which have become fully matured. Each sheet is suspended from a transverse, hanger bar which is attachable to the float assembly. The float assembly is of considerable length compared to its cross-section. The hanger bars can be attached to the float by clips or suspended from it by cables, chains etc. - Pref. the complete breeding process takes place on the same support sheet, i.e the mussel brood is attached to the sheets, the mussels are cultivated to market size on the sheets suspended in deep water, the sheets are removed from the float assembly and the mussel harvest detached from the sheets.
