PURPOSE:To output signal charges from a plurality of channels as the signal from an array of transfer channels by a method wherein N-arrays of charge transfer channels are driven by drive pulses of drive frequency (f)XNHz. CONSTITUTION:Of pulses phi1 and phi2 driving the transfer channels 51 and 52, when the pulse phi1 turns low, and the pulse P2 connected to the pulse phi2, a drive power source Q, and transfer electrodes 67 and 68 turn high, the signal charges from the channel 51 transfers from the transfer electrode 55 to the electrode 63. Next, when the pulse Q turns low and the pulse P1 having a frequency twice as much as the pulses phi1 and phi2 driving the transfer channel 70 turn high, these charges transfer to the transfer electrode 66. Then, the pulses phi2 and P1 turn low and the pulses P2, Q2, and phi1 turn high, the signal charges of the channel 52 transfer from the transfer electrode 61 to the electrode 63, and at the same time the charges of the electrode 66 transfer to the electrode 68.
