<p>Paper or card is sized by adding to an aq. fibre suspension contg. cellulose and opt. fillers, at least (A) a sizing agent contg. at least 1 anionic or acid gp., opt. in salt form, and at least 2 hydrophobic gps. (X), each with at least 5C; at least 1 X has at least 8C, and at least 2 adjacent X are linked by a bridging gp. with at least 1C and 2 hetero-atoms; and (B) a polymeric, cationic retention agent. The size dispersions are stable, and compatible with fillers and brighteners. Small amts. of (A) and (B) give paper with good mechanical properties. Suspensions contg. wood pulp or waste paper fibre can be processed.</p> |
