[Also in Division A2] The compounds of the invention have the following general formulµ wherein R represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an alkenyl group, and n is 1 or 2; wherein R 1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; R 2 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a furfuryl group or an alkyl-substituted phenyl group, and n is 0, 1 or 2, provided that when R 1 represents a hydrogen atom and n is 1 then R 2 may not be a methyl group or a furfuryl group; wherein R represents an alkyl group or a furfuryl group; wherein R represents an alkyl group or an acyl group; wherein n is 1 and R represents an acetyl group or a thenyl group; or n is 2 and R represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an acetyl group or a thenyl group; wherein R represents an alkyl group or a furfuryl group; and wherein R represents an alkyl group, a furfuryl group or an acyl group. The above compounds have been found to possess useful properties as flavouring agents for foodstuffs. Examples describe the preparation of furfurylthiol acetate, propionate, butyrate, furoate, #,#-dimethylacrylate and tiglate and formate and 2-(Furyl-2) ethanethiol acetate according to Formula (I); 5-methylfurfuryl methyl sulphide, furfuryl propyl-, isopropyl- and 5-methylfuryl sulphides, methyl-5-methylfuryl sulphide, and 2-(Furyl- 2)-ethanethiol according to Formula (II); Methylthiol furoate according to Formula (III); Benzofurfuryl-2-methyl sulphide, and Benzofurfuryl-2-thiol acetate according to Formula (IV); Thenylthiol acetate, 2-(Thenyl-2) ethanethiol, 2-(Thenyl-2)-ethanethiol acetate, and Dithenyl sulphide according to Formula (V); the S-methyl, S-ethyl and S-furfuryl esters of thiothenoic acid, according to Formula (VI); and the N-methyl-pyrryl-2 methyl, ethyl and furfuryl sulphides and N-methyl-pyrryl-2- methylthiol acetate according to Formula (VII). |
