An aerosol detergent composition comprises (a) from 50 to 80% by weight of the composition of a propellant and (b) from 20 to 50% of a mixture of a major amount of a surface-active agent and a minor amount of a textile optical brightening agent. Specified propellants are halogenated alkanes such as chlorofluoroalkanes, and specified surface-active agents are of the non-ionic type, e.g. ethylene oxide condensates with compounds containing a reactive hydrogen atom, and sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate. Various optical brightening agents are specified, such as coumarin types, triazolyl stilbene types, stilbene cyanuric types, acylamino stilbene types and miscellaneous types, e.g. derivatives of benzimidazole and diphenylene sulphone. The composition may also contain a solvent, e.g. ethanol, water, disinfectants, sequestrants, soil-suspending agents, fabric softeners and/or perfumes.ALSO:A method of treating textile materials prior to washing in an aqueous detergent bath comprises treating the materials with an aerosol composition comprising from 50 to 80% by weight of a propellant and from 20 to 50% by weight of a mixture of a major amount of a surface-active agent and a minor amount of a textile optical brightening agent. Specified surface-active agents are ethylene oxide condensates with organic compounds containing a reactive hydrogen atom and sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate, and specified brightening agents are coumarin types, triazoyl stilbene types, stilbene cyanuric types, ocylamino stilbene types and miscellaneous types, e.g. derivatives of benzimidazole and diphenylene sulphone. The composition may also contain a solvent e.g. ethanol, water, disinfectants, sequestrants, soil-suspending agents, fabric softeners and/or perfumes. |
