Plug and socket cable connector

The connection between two electrical cables (2,3) is provided by a plug (5) and socket (6) that have cylindrical cross sections. Free cable is looped around a retaining lug (7) formed at the end of the plug connector and this has two profiled hooks (8). The gap between the hooks and the main body of the plug is slightly less than the diameter of the cable, to enable a small retaining force to be produced. When the cable is looped around the retaining lug the plug and socket are prevented from becoming separated. A number of alternative retaining elements may be used that have a flat disc profile with formed recesses for cable retention.
