PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a lens and to obtain a very small polarizer by laminating alternately and repeatedly with metallic layers and dielectric layers thicker than said layers in the bow-shaped part perpendicular to the axial line of the core of an optical fiber inclusive of the core so as to parallel with the axial line of the core. CONSTITUTION:A groove 4 is slitted to a bow shape from the side of an optical fiber 1 consisting of a core 2 and a clad 3 down to the core 2 to form the bow- shaped groove 4 which is flat at the base 5 perpendicular to the axial line of the core inclusive of the core 2. Thin metallic layers 8 and thick dielectric layers 7 thicker than said layers are alternately laminated on the base 5 so as to parallel with the base 5 of the groove 4 and to parallel with the axial line of the core until the part of the core 2 is covered thereby forming the multilayered metallic amd dielectric body and providing the intended polarizer. The very small polarizer is thus formed directly in the optical fiber and since the polarizer is very small, the polarizer suitable for integration is obtd. |
