A wire electroplating appts. comprises an alternate sequence of plating and smoothing stations through which the wire is driven. Each smoothing station comprises at least four rollers spaced along the wire so that all the wire is contacted and smoothed. Each roller has a groove with a rounded bottom so that the wire surface is brought into compression contact with the rollers. The rotational axes of the rollers are at right angles to the wire's travelling direction. Smooth electroplating is achieved at high currrent densities.
