A safety ski binding has a bearing part 11, on which a sole hold-down 13 is arranged which is pivotable about a transverse axle 12. The sole hold-down is firmly connected to a spring cage 14 which extends away from the bearing part. The bearing part 11, in turn, is mounted rotatably in a bearing block 17 so as to be pivotable about the same transverse axle 12, said bearing block being attached to a sole plate 19 which can be pivoted about a vertical axis 18. The bearing part 17 is pressed against a counter-piece 22, which is fixed to the ski, via a lateral release link 21 by the reaction moment exerted by the spring 15. If a predetermined lateral release force is exceeded, the sole plate 19 is pivoted about the vertical axis 18 with the bearing part 11 pivoting in the direction of increasing the spring stress (Figure 3). <IMAGE>
