A stepping switch for stepping transformers, having an insulating cylinder of an oil vessel, which is supported by a metallic head flange. The head flange is designed as a welded structure. In this case, a cylindrical piece which initially consists of steel plate is pushed over the upper end of the insulating cylinder and is connected at its upper end to the insulating cylinder by means of a plurality of screws. The cylindrical piece is welded on its outer surface below the connecting screws to a ring consisting of flat material. For its part, this ring is welded on its outer circumference to the lower edge of a second cylindrical piece whose longitudinal extent projects beyond the first cylindrical piece and the insulating cylinder, and the second cylindrical piece is welded to the supporting rim of the head flange.
