An insulating body which can have the shape of a pipe, tube or sheet consists of foam and a covering with a protective insert. In order to achieve a large degree of resistance to damage and impermeability of the protective insert to diffusion of water or vapour, the protective insert is designed as a woven fabric of stretched plastics tapes with a gapless linen weave, the woven fabric being sealed by the effect of heat and pressure to form a dense sheet. <IMAGE>
