A protective covering for parts on machines has a foldable support (3), which is provided on the outside with a slatted covering which is formed by slats (1) overlapping one another in an imbricated manner. The slats (1) are in each case fastened by means of bands (2) on the foldable support (3). For the bands (2), preferably textile bands are provided. The bands (2) are in each case fastened on the one hand on a slat (1) and on the other hand on a fold wall (30) of the support (3) and have a slack intermediate section (22) between the end section (23) on the support side and the end section (21) on the slat side. As a result, the outer slat (1) of adjacent, overlapping slats (1) in each case rests fully or partially on the inner slat (1) under the effect of gravity. This measure serves for creating a protective covering which, while providing constantly reliable screening of the upper side of the support (3) by the slatted covering, is of a simple design and can be pushed together to be as small as possible (Figure 1). <IMAGE>
