An air-cooled transformer is provided with cooling channels (16, 22) which run past coils on the sides and into which branch connecting pieces (18) are inserted from which outlet channels (20) emerge. These outlet channels are directed towards the coils of the transformer which are to be cooled. In order to achieve 100% redundancy, a fan (12) is arranged on each side of the cooling channel (16, 22), non-return flaps being located on the induction side of said fan (12). The cooling system of this transformer allows a uniform air flow distribution to be ensured, with a reliable method of operation. <IMAGE>
