PURPOSE:To positively detect a combustion state with an improved response, by detecting the level of infrared ray radiated from a combustion section in a non- contacting manner at a remote location away from the combustion section. CONSTITUTION:A surface combustion catalyst combustion device 3 comprises a catalyst layer 2 formed as a combustion section wherein a low temperature combustion takes place. An infra-red ray sensor 4 is spaced away from the combustion section 1 in the skewed direction above the combustion device 3, having its entire surface adapted to be oriented. The infra-red ray sensor 4 and a treatment circuit 5 connected with the infra-red ray sensor 4 form a combustion detector A for monitoring the changing state of combustion section 1 during its combustion and non-combustion. It therefore becomes possible to positively detect a combustion in a low-temperature zone as well as a small combustion caused by the rising of flame. |
