PURPOSE:To improve the print processing speed by differentiating the capacity of buffer memories corresponding to printing sections by one printing line to enable a multicolor printing simply by moving the print head only once. CONSTITUTION:In an ink ribbon 5, color bands 5a-5d are arranged each with the width D at the right angle to the printing direction. So, after the color band 5a is transferred thermally, a recording paper is fed by the width D of the subsequent printing line portion for the heat transfer of the color band 5b. Driver circuits 15a-15d controls the heat generation of heat generating elements 4 in corresponding printing sections 3a-3d based on a color data memorized in buffer memories 11-14. For example, in the buffer memory 13, the color data of the color band 5c for one line is first memorized in a memory area 13c, transferred to memory areas 13b and 13a sequentially each time a recording paper is fed by one line and read out with a CPU7. As a result, the printing operation for the third line thermally transfers the color bands 5c-5a at respective specified printing positions at the first, second and third lines. |
