The application relates to a method for determining the angle of twist alpha of a weapon tube 1 having a groove/land profile, and a device for carrying out this method. A weapon tube 1 is fixed axially and radially on a test bench 4. A probe 2, which is connected via the measuring sleeve 10 to a measuring carriage 3 which can be moved rectilinearly is moved in a groove of the weapon tube 1. During the rectilinear movement of the measuring carriage 3, the probe 2 describes an angle of rotation DELTA beta which is used together with the path length DELTA . covered to determine the angle of twist alpha via the mathematical relationship <IMAGE> . <IMAGE>
