A quick-acting changer for multi-spindle machining units is proposed, having a tool carrier with receiving and delivery openings for quick-acting change inserts in each case carrying a tool. Allocated to each opening is a holding device which positions a quick-acting change insert in the tool carrier in an axially reproducible manner and has at least one axial stop, placed in an axially fixed position and in the form of a surmountable, spring-loaded locking body, and at an axial distance a spring member which can be thrust back axially in an elastic manner. Locking body and spring member act on respectively facing radial shoulders of the quick-acting change insert. The radial shoulder allocated to the spring member contains a recess. Upon rotation of the quick-acting change insert, the spring member with a locking body engages in the recess while being positively locked against rotation. The tool changer with the quick-acting change inserts and the holding devices is simple and inexpensive. The holding devices can be mounted as complete parts even in restricted space conditions.
