PURPOSE:To increase the discharge voltage and the capacity of a battery by using a specific graphite fluoride as an active material. CONSTITUTION:For the active material used in this invention, a graphite having a crystallinity degree of -0.45 or lower (Franklin P value) is used in which the diffraction angle (2theta) of 001 surface determined by the powder X-ray diffraction method indicates a peak level of at least 12 deg.. For example, after an artificial graphite having a Franklin P value of -0.65 is put in a reactor, the graphite is subjected to degassing at 360 deg.C for 30min to remove the water before being cooled to room temperature. Next, fluorine gas (10vol%) is supplied to the cooled graphite which is then heated to 360 deg.C before being subjected to reaction for 25hr while fluorine gase is fed into it, thereby obtaining a graphite fluoride having a fluorine content of 53.5% and a diffraction angle (2theta) (specified above) of 14.02 deg.. |
