A spherical plug valve has a fabricated closure member 34 comprising a pair of identical shell members 70, 72 trunnion supports 102, 104, and a conduit 84, welded together, with a reinforcing plate 94 welded between the conduit 84 and the spherical shell 70, 72. Trunnions 30, 32 are non-rotatably connected to the closure 34 by keys 38 and 40, respectively, and the trunnion 30 is sealed by packing material disposed in a chamber 56. A pressure relief fitting 21 allows the body pressure to be bled to atmosphere. The lower key 40 may be dispensed with. In Fig. 4, not shown, two supplementary reinforcing plates (118) and (120) are welded between the conduit 84 and shell 70, 72, and in Fig. 5, not shown, the shell is reinforced by loops (122).</p> |
