PURPOSE:To improve the charge-and-discharge efficiency of a sodium-sulfur battery by installing a carbon fiber member having a larger surface area than a carbon fiber member impregnated with molten sulfur between the positive electrode and the solid electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:Between a positive electrode 3a and a solid electrolyte 1, a carbon fiber member 12 having a larger surface area than that of a carbon fiber member 4 impregnated with molten sulfur 3 is installed. As a result, the ratio of the suface area of the carbon fiber member 4 to that of the carbon fiber mem ber 12 is decreased reducing the reaction rate of the solid-electrolyte side area of the positive electrode 3a and making the reaction rate of the positive electrode 3a uniform, thereby achieving a good charge-and-discharge characteristic. Consequently, it is possible to obtain a sodium-sulfur battery having an improved charg-and-discharge efficiency. |
