<p>The tandem suspension system for a heavy road vehicle has two parallel equalisers (11, 12) which have cylindrical mountings (13, 14) at their ends. End pieces (15, 16) join these to two parallel axles (17, 18). At the middle of each equaliser is a cylindrical mounting (19), joined to a spring buckle (20). Each buckle holds a leaf spring (21) held by fittings (22) to the vehicle body. To prevent rotation of the axles under braking forces there are restraining bars (23). The cylindrical mounting (19) consists of two sleeves, with an elastomer insert to allow considerable tilting of the interior, relative to the exterior.</p> |
