New esters are the isomeric octadienyl esters of 2-ethylidenehepta-3,5-dienoic acid and 2-vinyl-hepta-3,5-dienoic acid of the formula C8H11COOC8H13 (I). Also new is the unsatd. delta-lactone of formula (II): (I) and (II) are useful as intermediates, esp. for fungicides, pesticides etc. They may be hydrogenated to give softeners for plastics such as PVC and polystyrene.
