[Also in Divisions F3 and F4] A preheater 2 for granular calcareous material being supplied to a fluidised bed calciner 1 comprises a pipe 13 with a connection 12 to a cyclone separator 11 supplied with hot waste gas from the calciner, said pipe having an outlet 14 below the static level of a fluidised bed of charge material fed to said preheater by a pipe 18. The preheater has a gas offtake 19 and a valve-controlled pipe 20 feeding material to the calciner. A plenum chamber 21 below the preheater may supply additional air upwardly therein, which air may be preheated by a jacket 22 round the tube 13. The temperature of the calciner is of the order of 900‹-1000‹C and is generated by burners 8. |
