Date Mar. 15, 1984.N-alkyl-4'-hydroxyacetanilides wherein alkyl is of up to 8 carbon atoms, preferably ethyl or isopropyl, have analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and sedative activity. Those of at least two carbon atoms lack the hepatotoxicity of acetaminophen and the N-methyl compound also has substantially less hepatotoxicity than acetaminophen. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising them are employed to ameliorate pain, reduce fever, reduce the symptoms of systemic inflammatory conditions and sedate.
