The exhaust gas re-cycling valve is contained in a housing bolted to the inlet manifold pipe. The valve seat controls a metered opening (26) between the exhaust manifold and the mixture intake manifold. The valve housing is divided by a flexible diaphragm into two chambers. The upper chamber contains the diaphragm tensioning spring and is subjected to intake depression (108). The diaphragm is enclosed by two housing parts (112, 114). The return spring bears on the upper housing part and strives to keep the valve seat (30) closed. The two housing parts and the diaphragm form respectively an upper air chamber (150) and a lower exhaust gas chamber (152). The regulator valve is able to respond to either a depression strong enough to overcome the spring force (166) or an exhaust pressure exercised against the lower side of the diaphragm. |
