SUCTION CONSTRUCTION OF ENGINE OF COMPLEX SUCTION TYPE

PURPOSE:To stabilize combustion by introducing the suction air from the same bank, providing possibility of giving one of the suction systems the same swirling direction as that of the other suction system, and by generating an intense turbulence of minor scale in the suction air intorudced through the first named suction system. CONSTITUTION:The P-suction system 1 is provided with a primary suction port 1A having its opening toward the combustion chamber A, and with a primary suction valve 1a serving throughout the operating range of the engine. The S- suction system 2 is provided with a secondary port 2A having its opening toward the combustion chamber A so as to be in service during middle and high loaded operation. A mask (boss) 5 is formed at the S-port 2A so as to constitute a flow- in direction adjusting means M1 and a micro-turbulence generating means M2. The mask 5 is to generate an intense turbulence of minor scale (micro-turbulence) in the suction gas on the downstream side of mask or give the suction gas a vertical swirl by turning the flow-in direction of the suction gas flowing into the combustion chamber A to the direction of the axis O of the cylinder C.
