PURPOSE:To produce novel antibiotic substance TAN-536A and/or B, by culturing a microbial strain belonging to Cytophaga genus and capable of producing said antibiotic substance, and collecting the antibiotic substance produced and accumulated in the culture product. CONSTITUTION:A microbial strain capable of producing antibiotic substance TAN-536A and/or B, e.g. Cytophaga sp. YK-33 strain, is cultured in a medium containing a C source such as glucose, an N source such as soybean flour, an inorganic salt such as NaCl, etc. The cultivation is carried out preferably under aeration at 15-35 deg.C and about 4-8pH. The objective antibiotic substance TAN- 536A and/or B can be separated from the cultured product by conventional separation means. These antibiotic substances are purified taking advantage of their intermediate properties between water-soluble and fat-soluble properties, and weak basicity. |
