Plasticised sulphur adhesive is heated to 160-220 degrees C when it has low viscosity. It is then used for laminating together layers in a paper or paper-like prod. The plasticiser is pref. dicyclopentadiene or an aliphatic or aromatic polysulphide. The adhesive pref. contains a filler, e.g. talc, mica and/or asbestos or glass fibres. After cooling, the adhesive stays tacky for longer. It can also be cooled below the normal m.pt. of sulphur. The bonded paper prod. can be a container or a pipe or conduit. In an example, dicyclopentadiene, talc and glass fibre were mixed with molten sulphur at 138 degrees C and cooled. This adhesive was heated to 185 degrees C and used to laminate paper sheets to form a water-tight container.
|
