<p>The modulator getter pump operates with a non-evaporating getter material. The latter is embedded into a support. Pump, which may be used as a single unit or as a multiple system for absorbing gases in sealed vessels, generates and maintains high vacuum and does not require separate heater and hence its power consumption is low. The pump has two supporting electrodes. A strip of high resistance material is connected to the support electrodes. The length of strip is much greater than its width and it is very thin. This strip is folded into parallel flat sections forming uniformly spaced parallel convolutions. Hence the effective length of strip is reduced and this folded strip forms a support on which is embedded a non-evaporating getter material. The uniform spacing of parallel sections of strip is ensured by a rod passing through folded parts and by spacing plugs.</p> |
