A coin freed mechanism, particularly for washing machines, comprises a coin carrier 10 (Fig. 2) adapted to receive one or more coins, the carrier being movable from a coin receiving position to an operative position via a coin checking means 21 which prevents the passage of over size coins, and means 33 for preventing movement of the coin carrier to its operative position in the absence of a coin. The coin carrier comprises a slide 11 having coin slots 13-15 (Fig. 1) inserted coins being supported on a stationary surface 17. The coin checking means 21 comprises a bridge having coin testing slots 22-24 in line with coin slots 13-15. Movement of the slide is checked by three spring-loaded pawls 33 engaging an edge 36 in the absence of one or more coins. A coin deflecting member 45, has a plurality of vertical slots (47-49) (Fig. 6, not shown), each slot corresponding with one of the slots 13-15 in the slide 11. Each slot (47-49) tapered in by shoulders (50) towards its upper extremity such that coins of correct size are cammed downwardly to bear on levers 33 and release the slide 11 for further movement. A small coin does not contact the shoulders (50) and is not cammed while a thin coin passes between the shoulders and is not cammed. With coins of correct size the slide passes rightwards to discharge the coins through hole 57 to a coinbox, the cam plate 25 actuating the coin freed machine. The slide is returned by spring 54 and a full stroke mechanism 60 is incorporated. One or more slots 13-15 may be closed by a packing piece having a depending portion operating the associated pawl 33. A magnet and washer retaining finger may be incorporated. The slide 11 and the escutcheon plate 19 of the bridge 21 may be replaced when adjusting the machine for different coins. The coin deflector 45 may be packed up by shims.</p> |
