The invention can be used in the field of high-pressure pneumatics in the pressure range of 0.4-1.5 MPa and wherever sequencies of motion of working cylinders are to be fixed and braked at predefined points. The braking and arresting is to be effected without additional devices at the cylinder in order to ensure that the working cylinder can also be used where the construction space is limited in equipment, machines, automatic machines and manipulating appliances in automation technology. This is achieved by a fluid passing via a channel in a piston rod and/or directly through a bore in the cylinder wall into the hollow space between two or more seals which are arranged one after the other on the piston rod. The admission of fluid to the hollow space can also be effected via a flexible line located in the interior of the cylinder.
